TROWBRIDGE, Sutter County — November 3, 2026. The South Sutter Water District, headquartered in Trowbridge, operates an extensive irrigation delivery system that connects Camp Far West Reservoir with agricultural lands in multiple counties.
Where the irrigation water comes from
According to the district, its primary storage source is Camp Far West Reservoir, which can store up to 93,740 acre-feet. Water is carried through unlined canals and natural drainage routes, including Yankee Slough, Coon Creek and Pleasant Grove Creek. The district says its staff maintains more than 126 miles of irrigation ditches and drainage canals.
How farms receive it
Water tenders monitor deliveries during spring and summer, when local agricultural irrigation needs are greatest. The district describes service to more than 200 landowners, including walnut, rice and pasture growers. That description is of an agricultural water-supply system; it should not be interpreted as saying all Trowbridge households receive drinking water from this reservoir.
What about power generation?
The district says a 6.8-megawatt hydroelectric facility has operated at Camp Far West Dam since 1984, helping offset operating costs. Water allocations and power production vary with operations and conditions, so historic capacity figures are not real-time output measurements.
